Chinese A crime novel by Leena Lehtolainen, Tuulen puolella (‘Under the wind’,Tammi) has been published in Chinese by Sichuan Literature & Art Publishing House of Sichuan. The translator is Xi Mei Fang. English Herra Huu (Mr Boo) is a character in a series of children’s books by Hannu Mäkelä. The first one in the series, Herra Huu (Otava, 1973), has been published by Aspasia Books of Beaverton (Ontario, Canada). The title is Mr Boo; the translator is Anselm Hollo.      Aspasia Books has now published the second volume of the three-volume book (1959–62) Täällä Pohjantähden alla, Under the North Star, by Väinö Linna. The translator is Richard Impola.      Another new title from Aspasia Books is a selection of Finnish folk tales; Foxy Finnish Folk Tales for Children are translated, adapted and illustrated by Kaarina Brooks. Estonian Tomi Kontio’s poems has been published under the title Luulet (‘Poems’). The translator is Kalju Kruusa and the publisher is Vikerkaar of Tallinn.      A 19th-century play by Aleksis Kivi, Olviretki Schleusingenissä (‘A pub crawl in Schleusingen’), has been published by Huma of Tallinn as Õlleretk Schleusingenis. The translator is Endel Mallene.      Huma has also published a selection of poetry by Lassi Nummi has been published under the title Taeva ja maa märgid. The translators are Anders Ehin, Tiiu Kokla, Jaan Kross, Kalle Kurg, Ellen Niit, Ly Seppel and Debora Vaarandi. The editor is Ly Seppel. German Poems by Kai Nieminen and Jouni Inkala have been published in an anthology entitled Der Kompass der Poesie (in the series die horen, no 206). The publisher is die horen of Bremerhaven. The translator is Stefan Moster.      Moster has also translated a play by Kristian Smeds, Huutavan ääni korvessa (‘A cry in the wilderness’). The title is Party Killer and the translator is Regine Pirschel.      A historical novel by Kaari Utrio, Tuulihaukka (‘The kestrel’,Tammi) has been published under the title Sturmfalke. The translator is Angela Plöger; the publisher is Kabel / Piper Verlag of Münich. Italian Poems by Juhani Ahvenjärvi, Olli Heikkonen, Jouni Inkala, Riina Katajavuori, Jyrki Kiiskinen, Tomi Kontio, Heidi Liehu, Lauri Otonkoski, Annukka Peura, Helena Sinervo and Merja Virolainen have been published in an anthology, translated by Antonio Parente. The publisher is ASEFI Editoriale of Milano; the title is Quando il sole è fissato con i chiodi. Poeti finlandesi contemporanei. Japanese Two novels by Leena Krohn, Tainaron and Umbra (WSOY), have been published by Shinhyoron Publishing Inc. of Tokyo. The translator is Hiroko Suenobu. Polish The novels 30-åriga kriget (The 30-year war) and Efter hjältedöden (‘After the heroic death’, Söderströms) by Henrik Tikkanen have been published under the title Wojna trzydziestoletnia. Po bohaterskiej smierci. The publisher is Terytoria of Gdansk; the translator is Andrzej Chojecki. Swedish The first novel by Reidar Palmgren, Jalat edellä (‘Feet first’, Otava) has been published under the title Fötterna först. The translator is Ann-Christine Relander and the publisher is Piratförlaget AB of Stockholm.      Relander has also translated the novel Ennen päivänlaskua ei voi (to be published as Not before the sunset by Peter Owen, UK, in 2003; Tammi) by Johanna Sinisalo. The title is Bara sedan solen sjunkit and the publisher is Wahlström & Widstrand of Stockholm.      Arto Paasilinna’s latest novel, Kymmenen riivinrautaa (‘Ten hags’, WSOY), has been published as Tio rivjärn by Bromberg. Bokförlag AB of Stockholm; the translator is Camilla Frostell.      A cartoon book by Kati Kovács, Pahvilapsi (‘Cardboard kid’, Like), has been published under the title Kartongbarnet. The translator is Jocke Laitala and the publisher is Optimal Press of Gothenburg.      An anthology of fiction called Kärlek på finska, ‘Love in Finnish’, has been published by En bok för alla of Stockholm. It contains texts by Pentti Holappa, Mari Mörö, Hannu Raittila, Rosa Liksom, Juha Seppälä, Jouko Turkka, Tiina Pystynen, Olli Jalonen, Päivi Alasalmi, Kari Hotakainen, Pirjo Hassinen, Johanna Sinisalo and Jari Tervo. The editor is Tapani Suominen; there are several translators.      A book for young people by Tuija Lehtinen, Roskisprinssi (‘Garbage prince’, Otava), has been published under the title Sopåkarprinsen. The translator is Bengt Zilliacus and the publisher is Bokförlaget Idun of Tenala (Finland).      A book for children by the writers Sinikka and Tiina Nopola and the illustrator Markus Majaluoma, Rauhallinen Erkki (‘Calm Erkki’, Tammi) has been translated by Martin Enckell and published by Bonnier Carlsen of Stockholm. The title is Lugna Uno.      A play by Outi Nyytäjä, Pyykki (‘Laundry’) has been published as Byke, translated by Gunilla Hemming. The publisher is Book on the Demand of Helsinki.      The novel Väärä asenne by Petri Tamminen (‘Wrong attitude’, Otava), has been translated by Camilla Frostell.
