The historical novel Kaarina Maununtytär ('Kaarina, daughter of Maunu', WSOY) by Mika Waltari has been published as Vosonoga kraljica by A3 data of Zagreb. The translators are Siiri Alakorva-Balagovic and Dragutin Balagovic.

English
Bakelser - en studie i lyxens kulturella formspråk by Bo Lönnqvist has been published as Pastries. A Study of Cultural Expressions of Luxury by Schildts of Helsinki; the translator is Elwa Sandbacka. The book has also appeared in Finnish, also published by Schildts.

Estonian
A selection of Eino Leino's poems, Eino Leinon kauneimmat runot ('The most beautiful poems of Eino Leino'), has been published as Päikesepoeg. The translations are by August Annist, Ellen Niit, Ants Oras, Gustav Suits and Debora Vaarandi, who has edited the book. The publisher is Eesti Raamat of Tallinn.
     The third volume of the novel trilogy by Väinö Linna, Täällä Pohjantähden alla ('Here beneath the North Star', WSOY) has been published by Olion of Tallinn as Siin Põhjatähe all. The translator is Endel Mallene.
     A selection of poems by Arto Melleri (WSOY) has been translated by Joel Sang and published by Vagabund of Tallinn under the title Printsess Hüsteria.
     The book Ei koskaan liian myöhäistä saada onnellinen lapsuus ('Never too late to gain a happy childhood', WSOY) by the psychiatrist Ben Furman has been published under the title Kunagi pole liiga hilja saada õnnelik lapsepõlv by Sinisukk of Tallinn; the translator is Maire Jürima.

French
The novel Ihon aika ('The time of the skin', WSOY) by Anja Snellman (formerly Kauranen) has been translated by Anne Colin du Terrail and published by Presse Universitaires de Caen of Caen. The title is Le Temps de la peau.
     The opera libretto Aleksis Kivi by the composer Einojuhani Rautavaara has been translated by Aline Vannier-Sihvola and published by Opéra national du Rhin of Strasbourg, where the opera was performed last year.

German
A selection of fairy-tales by the classic children's writer Anni Swan have been published under the title Kranich und Hirtenmädchen by Urachhaus of Stuttgart. The translator is Angela Plöger.
     Finland: ae cultural encyclopaedia (editor-in-Chief: Olli Alho; Finnish Literature Society) has been published in German by the Finnish Literature Society of Helsinki. The title is Kulturlexikon Finnland, and the translator is Gisbert Jänicke.

Hebrew
The novel Pientä rakkautta ('A small kind of love', Otava) by Eila Pennanen has been published by Carmel of Jerusalem under the title Ahava Qetanna. The translator is Rami Saari.
     Saari has also translated a selection of poems (Tammi) by Sirkka Turkka for Carmel; the title is Maher, levad ve-'akhsav.

Hungarian
The collection of poems Requiem by Lassi Nummi (Otava) has been translated by István Rácz under the same title; the publisher is Polar of Budapest.
     A selection of prose and poetry by 19 Finnish writers has been published in an anthology entitled Kalligram 1998:10. Finn müvészet és gondolat; there are several translators. The publisher is Kalligram of Bratislava.

Lithuanian

The novel Maa on syntinen laulu ('The earth is a sinful song', Gummerus) by Timo K. Mukka has been published as Zeme - modeminga giesme. The publisher is CharibdE of Vilnius and the translator Danute Sirijos Giraite.
     The historical novel Turms, kuolematon (The Etruscan, WSOY) by Mika Waltari has been translated by Aida Krilaviciené, the title is Turmsas nemirtingasis and the publisher Tyto Alba of Vilnius.

Polish
The Finnish national epic, the Kalevala, has been translated into Polish by Jerzy Litwiniuk. The publisher is Panstwowy Instytut Wydawniczy of Warsaw.
     The same house has also published four novellas by Mika Waltari (WSOY) under the title Zlotowlosa; the translator is Joanna Trzcinska-Mejor.
     A selection of short prose by Leena Krohn (WSOY) has been published in a book called Nie czytaj tej ksiazki. The translators are Iwona Furmanowicz, Katarzyna Kasierska, Boleslaw Ludwiczak, Karolina Majewicz, Magdalena Patrykiejew and Marta Westrych. The publisher is Aula of Podkowa Lesna.
     The play Huomenna kello neljä ('Tomorrow at four o'clock') by Esa Kirkkopelto has been translated by Bozena Kojro in Dialog 1998:10; the publisher is Biblioteca Narodowa of Warsaw, and the title is Jutro o czwartej.

Spanish
A selection of poems by Claes Andersson (Söderströms) has been translated by Francisco J. Uriz. The publisher is Pamiela of Pamplona and the title is Lo que se hizo palabra en mi.
