The Organisation

Matters relating to the Society are decided at the Annual General Meeting, other smaller meetings and the council. The Society's governing body is the Board of Directors.

At its AGM in March, members of the Society choose 21 representatives to the council. Each year a third of the representatives step down. The council annually holds two meetings. At its autumn meeting it selects members of the Board of Directors and of the Select Committee, a third of whom also step down each year. The Board holds between 8-10 meetings per year and co-ordinates two select committees to oversee preparation for these meetings. Those selected for the Board represent research, cultural life and joint projects on a national scale.

The Secretary General is the Society's Director, who prepares matters to be addressed to the Board in collaboration with the Financial Manager and the heads of the various departments within the Society.
